First, I must say I have the most supportive husband in the world. He doesn’t just tolerate my crafting, he encourages it. However, he will also tell you that to love you is to mock you. And as much we love each other, I still hate to give him fresh mocking material (even when I deserve it).
So, the story starts a couple of weeks ago, I did a little weekend craft supply shopping, using sales and the standard coupons. I brought him along so I could use more coupons…you know how that goes. So, after a little shopping, I made a comment on the way home that I should not buy any more craft supplies this month.
As you can guess, that did not last. Last weekend I made a trip to the 35th Ave Sew & Vac/Fabric World; I don’t need to make any excuses but I will. My friend Megan had not been there yet and I had some fabric that I needed for a Christmas gift and they had a coupon out. Really it was a moot point whether I bought the fabric then or on November 1st – it was going to be purchased.
Then, last night, another stop at Michael’s looking for a cork backed metal ruler. Why would I need this you wonder? Well, when cutting photos into tiny squares to adhere to paper to give it a mosaic look, you need a ruler that is not going to slip on your photos. When it does, well everything gets out of whack and gives the project that amateur look; and yes, despite the directions (which I even read), I did have to learn this lesson the hard way as well.
In the end, Michael’s did not have it so I had to go to Staples; so is it really a craft supply if it came from an office supply store? Maybe I can get off on this one on a technicality.
And then tonight, I stopped at Michael’s looking for journaling cards. I could make some, but already looking to cut some corners in the Christmas crafting season. But, alas, they did not have any. Guess I will have to make some after all.
My love has been oblivious to the stops at Michael’s and he cannot claim I was hiding it from him if it is right here on my blog! I can thank Girl Scout meetings the past two nights for giving me some cover to get to the craft store.
