Virtual Card Making Party – Faux Challenge

VCMPYou’ve made it to the last stop on this year’s Virtual Card Making Party! This challenge is all about faux techniques – making something look like something it isn’t.

Here are some ideas to get you going:

  • Copic Chalking by Sandy Allnock – use your Copic markers and a stencil to make it look like you chalked the image.
  • Faux Leather by Kris Allen – Make your paper look like leather – great for backgrounds.
  • Faux Snake Skin by Marsha – Make your paper look like snake skin – you can make some mail friendly shoes and handbags!
  • Wood Grain by Gina K. – great for all those cowboy cards.
  • Fur – if you use Copics and have some colorless blender, stamp and color a teddy bear, put some colorless blender (barely damp – don’t use too much, you can always go over it again) on a scrap of terry cloth, and dab that on the bear – he’ll look furry! Be sure not to get it on other colored parts of your image – otherwise everything will be furry.
  • Bricks – another Copic and colorless blender technique – color the background the shades of red (or other colors) you want the bricks to be, and then go in and draw the lines around each brick with a colorless blender.
  • Stitching – using your ruler and a fine tip pen, draw a dashed line around your card or image to look like stitching.
  • Tiles – color a square image, 3″ x 3″ is great for this, and cut it into 1″ squares. Adhere those 1/8″ apart on a larger square (3.5″ square in this example) for a mosaic tile look.
And my favorite, most used faux technique – buttons. I’ve got a great little die cut from Sizzix that has four different buttons that I use a variety of scraps with. I like to punch out the holes and put some ribbon through there – so this is also great for ribbon scraps.

I love when a challenge works perfectly with something I have on the table of craftiness. All your techniques are great inspirations. Thanks for hosting this!

Stitching, tiles, and buttons…three great selections that my collection of materials will work with. Now – which one to choose? Maybe all three?
    Thanks for the inspiration!

It was fun participating in every single challenge this weekend. I uploaded all the photos to my blog and then linked them to all 18 stops on the party in one sitting…it’s worn me out! But here’s my card…at 1:13 Wednesday morning. I love using the Martha Stewart button punch/embosser since I don’t have to buy buttons anymore. Thanks for the inspiration!
